Program Description:
Here at UWM's Center for International Education (CIE) we are excited to have our students traveling far and wide, exploring the globe through a variety of different activities and opportunities. However, we also want to make sure that your time abroad is as safe and enjoyable as possible. To ensure your health and safety while you are traveling it is important that you register with the CIE Study Abroad Office. This registration process will collect important information about your travel, as well as essential information like your passport details and emergency contact information – both here in the U.S. and abroad.

If you are part of a group traveling abroad, please make sure you refer to any specific instructions you received for completing the registration. These instructions can include the specific name of your group, as well as specific dates of travel and destinations. Faculty members leading student groups abroad should use the Faculty and Staff registration portal: http://uwm.edu/cie/study-abroad/for-faculty/travel-registration/

Certain student groups should use their designated registration portal in lieu of the link on this page. These groups include:

EMBA International Business Residency Program
Investment Management Certificate Program
School of Continuing Education Trips
Sustainable Peacebuilding International Fieldwork Program

Students participating in independent travel MUST be officially affiliated with UWM- meaning students must be currently enrolled, and the travel must also be sanctioned by a UWM department. If you are traveling independently or are unsure of your registration eligibility, please make sure you communicate your intended travel via travel-cie@uwm.edu. Our coordinators will work with you to ensure that your travel is properly registered with UWM.

When you click the "Register Now" button you will be prompted to confirm your intent to register (select "Yes"), and then you will log in with your UWM ePanther ID credentials. On the next screen, please select the term during which you will be traveling, and note your dates and destination(s) of travel. If your dates or destination(s) change you will need to notify the CIE Study Abroad Office via travel-cie@uwm.edu, so we can make the adjustments. So, please make sure you input the correct information.

Once you have indicated your dates and destination, you will be prompted to complete several items to complete your registration. You will need to provide details on your passport, your flight itinerary, and your contact information (both abroad, as well as your local emergency contact). You can always return to finish your registration if you don't have all of this right now, but you will need to finish the process prior to your departure.

Please note that the fee of $100 includes CIE’s administrative fees plus the first month of insurance. If the time abroad is longer than a month an additional $35 will be added to the initial cost. (For example: one month abroad = $100; two months abroad = $135)

The fee provides students with access to all CIE resources and potential emergency support. Additionally, it allows CIE to enroll students in State of Wisconsin mandated international health insurance, administered by Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI).  This insurance is specifically designed for the international context, and will provide far more robust and comprehensive coverage than any policy you would normally have from a U.S.-based policy.  For students, the charge for CISI International Health Insurance will be posted to PAWS unless other payment arrangements are made.
